Our Relationship with Mozambique

Education gives young children the foundation they need to become the leaders of tomorrow; leaders who will transform the world with the love of Christ.  This is true here in the St. Louis area and for our brothers and sisters in Mozambique.

However, not all children have easy access to this education.

In Mozambique, primary education can be difficult for young children to obtain.  Many times it involves walking over 2 hours to then attend classes underneath trees or in thatched structures.  Children as young as 6 years old often spend their school days sitting on the ground in their rural village, battling the elements of rain and wind, and trying to focus on their studies.

But through your generosity, things are changing.  Thanks to Manchester UMC and our partners in the Missouri and Mozambique Annual Conferences, over 500 children in two rural communities in southern Mozambique are now able to attend primary school closer to their homes, have classes in permanent school buildings, and sit in school desks for their instruction.

And in the village of Ngongane, where originally 1,200 children attended classes underneath trees and in thatched structures, a new 3-room school building with restrooms and a space storage will open next month.  That means that around 300 of the now almost 2,000 young children in this school can attend classes in a permanent school building out of the elements.

Just as our relationship with our friends from Mozambique has continued to strengthen over the past 10 years, so has our commitment to work together with them to provide access to quality primary education for children in rural Mozambique.

Through your support of this year’s Easter Offering, you can help insure that all of the children at Ngongane Primary School are able to attend school year-round in permanent buildings.  We need to build more three-room buildings to allow every child in this community to have the same basic educational accommodations that our own children receive – permanent buildings and school desks.

100% of your gift will be used to will make it possible for young children in Mozambique to receive the quality education that they need that would otherwise be lacking.

By increasing the accessibility to primary education in rural Mozambique, we can give young children a foundation of educational enrichment and empowerment that can last a lifetime.

We aren’t just building schools. We are building hope.
